Don't Mess with Texas Launches 20th Anniversary Web Site and Contest
Texans who pledge not to litter may win roundtrip Southwest Airline tickets
(AUSTIN, Texas)—Starting today, Texans who pledge not to litter may enter a drawing to receive two (2) free round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Don't Mess with Texas partner Southwest Airlines. Visit www.DontMessWithTexas20.org for details on how to enter.
The yearlong celebration of Don't Mess with Texas' 20th anniversary began at the AT&T Cotton Bowl today with the premiere of one of four new TV spots produced by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Immediately following the premiere, nine-time Grammy winning Texas swing band, Asleep at the Wheel, gave a special performance of The Star-Spangled Banner. The spot also began a two-week schedule on TV and cable stations statewide.
Advertising, outreach and special promotions, including an anniversary sweepstakes contest, will spread the litter prevention message throughout the year.
“Though recent research indicates roadside litter has dropped by a third, we've also discovered that more than half of Texans admit they litter and that's just not acceptable,” said TxDOT Travel Division Director Doris Howdeshell. “We're grateful to the celebrities who have joined with TxDOT during this milestone year to be prime examples of Real Texans who Don't Litter.”
