Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have worked hand-in-hand for more than four decades to make Texas roadways attractive for motorists and encourage tourism. KTB is a key partner in educating young Texans about litter prevention through the promotion of the annual Don’t mess with Texas Scholarship Contest and the Don’t mess with Texas Elementary School Art Contest. Litter prevention programs supported by KTB also include TxDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway and the Don’t mess with Texas Trash-Off. Since 1985, KTB has recognized outstanding communities through the Governor’s Community Achievement Awards program, with TxDOT providing the landscape awards.
